Theme: Re-Visiting Ramses Wissa Wassef
Location: Mahmoud Mokhtar Museum
Introduction:
The design was inspired by Ramses Wissa Wassef's use of ceiling holes that permit natural daylighting to internal spaces. The holes not only spotlight the sculptures, but they become like a guide to the user through the spaces, making them curious to follow it to see where it leads, eventually, creating a journey of chasing light.
The olive tree is a historic landmark on the site, and creates different layers of light and shadow throughout the day, therefore it becomes the center of the project.
Concept Statement: My cultural annex chases light to guide peel the layers of our Egyptian Identity and break its boundaries.
Keywords: Chasing light - Peeling Layers - Breaking Boundaries
